About Me...
I taught at Walton High School for 10 years prior to coming to the Mountain, and I love it here! I find that this school has so many opportunities for our students, and our student body is down-to-earth, giving, and excelling in so many areas - sports, drama, and academics. There is something for everyone at the Mountain, so try to get involved!
Outside of KMHS, I am involved in activities myself. Some semesters I teach evening classes at Kennesaw State University. At KSU, I've taught College Algebra, Precalc, Calc, and even some math courses for preservice teachers. I also serve as the Publications Editor the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics. As an executive board member, I act as the Publications Editor for our journal, Reflections, and I attend at mathematics conferences at least once a year to help organize, document experiences, or present content. I'm an alumnus of University of Georgia, the University of West Georgia, and Kennesaw State University. I love learning almost as much as I love teaching. On January 30th 2016, my husband (Don) and I welcomed a beautiful, baby girl named Clara Lynée Gammill. I relish the time that I get with my little family. The fourth member of our family is a sweet, pound puppy named Dallas. He is about 16 years old now, and he is gentle with our little girl. I love mathematics, and I hope to convey that passion through my teaching. Mathematics is a fun way of developing problem-solving skills that eventually translate to being able to solve a plethora of problems in the real-world. Being challenged by mathematics can be scary, but it is a normal part of the learning process. I expect all my students to take accountability for their learning by asking questions, coming in for help as needed, being prepared and present, and treating all the members of our classroom with respect. I integrate five principles into my pedagogy to optimize student success - persistence, patience, problem-solving, participation, and preparation. My goal is to teach the content standards and the standards of mathematical practice through activities and discussions. I strive to equip my students with the mathematical knowledge they will need to pursue any post-secondary goals they have. |
